“Focusing on the Matters at Hand”

In today’s world people are so busy loading as many worldly things into our day, we tend to forget what life is meant to be. We try to accumulate as much STUFF as we can possible afford,  participate  in as many activities as the hours provide, and run our children to the brink of exhaustion. We lose the little things that really should mean a lot to us. Being a grandparent I have discovered that it is much easier than being a parent. While raising my children, I was so busy providing for them, I feel I missed some important things in their life. Prominent and wealthy, I may add, Oprah Winfrey made this statement the essential question is not, "How busy are you?" but "What are you busy at?" "Are you doing what fulfills you?"

Successful men and women get up every morning with a calendar full of events to be accomplished in a relatively short span of time.  The day is spent sorting out ways to best get to our first appointment, the maximum time needed to see the customer, and even ways to increase our knowledge of their business to be the best. Life does come at us fast and we need to be prepared to sort and purge our activities so as not to miss out on any important events. Occasionally we need to take a step back and look at life and determine if the road we are taking leads to the destination we intend to go. It is so easy to get caught up in areas that take up all of our time. There are things in our careers and life in general that we deem as productive and can net us benefits to ensure a good life. However there are other activities that tend to creep into our day that is unnecessary and will waste precious and valuable minutes of the day.

What consumes your time? Have you given thought as to where you are? Are you busy just to be busy, or are the busy times productive. Are you on a street that is a virtual dead end or are you able to make a turn and get back on track? Someone once said, “Time is money” this may be true but lost time cannot be recovered.  Set aside the needed time to have a fulfilling life, enjoy the things you have accomplished by stopping to smell the roses. When life is enjoyable, attitudes are good, when attitudes are good we are better people.

A man must be master of his hours and days, not their servant.
                                                                      William Frederick
